Pacific Rose Bowl Festival
The Pacific Rose Bowl Festival takes place at Hamilton Gardens every November under the Pacific Accord of Friendship. The legendary New Zealand rose breeder Dr Sam McGredy initiated the friendship affiliation with the common objective of promoting roses worldwide. The four-day festival is named after the trophy awarded to the winner of the New Zealand Rose of the Year Trials.
New Zealand Rose of the Year Trials
Every year the best new roses from around the world are entered into the New Zealand Rose of the Year Trial. Each rose is entered by a RINZ (Rose Introducers of New Zealand Ltd) representative on behalf of the breeder. To be eligible for judging a rose must be available for sale to the public. There are four trials beds containing the trial roses. Two winners beds, located centrally in the Rogers Rose Garden, contain the past winners of the New Zealand Rose of the Year.
Rogers Rose Garden
The Rogers Rose Garden, part of the Hamilton Gardens Cultivar Garden Collection, is one of the jewels in the Hamilton Gardens crown. It holds a prestigious World Federation of Rose Societies’ Award of Garden Excellence.
Pacific Accord of Friendship
The Pacific Accord of Friendship includes trial gardens in Adelaide, Australia; Rose Hills, United States of America; and Gifu, Japan. Representatives from these gardens regularly attend each other’s events and are committed to promoting roses around the world.
Daltons Waikato Spring Rose Show
While attending the Pacific Rose Bowl Festival come and visit the Daltons Waikato Spring Rose Show in the Hamilton Gardens Pavilion where you will find beautiful roses, floral arrangements, interesting trade stalls and very friendly Rosarians who are happy to discuss roses and answer any of your questions on rose culture.
The Daltons Waikato Spring Show is one of this country’s best rose shows and is of world class standard, as many overseas visiting Rosarians will testify. We have a very suitable climate here in the Waikato for growing wonderful roses.
The Waikato Rose Society extends a very warm welcome to all our visitors.
